Jaswant Thada Jodhpur An immaculate white marble mausoleum sitting above a small lake in the heart of Jodhpur, Jaswant Thada is a spectacular marble structure built by Maharaja Sardar Singh in 1899 to commemorate his father Maharaja Jaswant Sigh II. Conveniently located on the main road leading to Mehrangarh, Jaswant Thada offers serene escape to the visitors and locals alike amidst the din of the bustling Jodhpur city.
The royal cenotaphs are milky white marble and the architecture understated yet elegant and intricate. The structure offer good view of the cityscape as well as the resplendent Umaid Bhawan Palace. The cenotaph built entirely of marble has some stunning carved marble lattice screens adorned with portraits of Rathore rulers dating back to the 13th century.
Beautiful view of the lake, chirping of the birds and tranquil ambience makes this royal cenotaph one of the must visit attractions in Jodhpur. However, the visit to Jaswant Thada requires visitors to pay small entry fee as well as fee for camera. Half an hour is good time to get the feel of the place and recollect one’s self in the lush and well manicured garden. Such is the charm and pervasive calm inside this structure that one would find it impossible to belief that it is actually a mausoleum.
